It’s Our Referralversary

A Year Ago Today

January 6th is a big milestone.

Remember that two days before we had prayed for two children in response to God’s prompting.  January 4th also marked the day that our dossier arrived in Ethiopia and we were officially on the waiting list.

(Don’t remember? Click Here)

I slept in on January 6th, recovering from the roadtrip back home.  I got a phone call from our social worker soon after I had woken up.  I wasn’t surprised to hear from her as I thought she was going to tell me more about our dossier.

We chitchatted a tiny bit and then Leigh Anne launched into the reason that she called.

“Amy, we have twin baby girls in Ethiopia, about a month old and they need a mommy and daddy…would you be interested?”

I literally fell to the ground, on my knees.

“Umm.  Amy, are you crying"?”

And I was.  I was crying as I was in shock and as I knew that God had just brought a miracle.  That is my God.  I told our SW how my God delights in the impossible.  I told her the whole story: God’s prompting, our lack of faith but desperation for it, our preparation for the long wait...

I told her to send the referral and called Jon, he didn’t answer.  So, I called him again. :)  The start of our conversation went something like this…

Me: Babe…sob…ummm…

Jon: Baby, are you crying?

I finally could tell him about the phone call with our SW and we rejoiced to God together.  He was in the middle of a meeting and told me not to open that e-mail until he was there “It’s like we are in labor and I have to take you to the hospital, wait for me!”

He went back into the meeting and his coworkers told him to go home immediately.

We danced around the living room when he got home.  I mean, praising God LOUDLY with abandon, jumping around, hugging, crying, shouting.  We finally made it up to our computer and this is what was waiting for us…

and then, I was scared…

Oh my, Amy. I'm crying at Jon's response. What a wonderful husband you have (well, that and the last post). :-)

Happy referral anniversary. Isn't it amazing how far our children have come, and how very perfect they are?

Wow! Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom, power, and love, our God is an awesome God.
To be honest, my favorite part is the pictures. I believe it shows their personalities even now. What a privilege and an honor to serve the Lord through adoption.
God continue to lead you and guide you and give you a light-heartedness for the days ahead.

Just curious - is the one on the newborn picture who is crying the same as the new top picture of them sitting in the chair on the right crying? Praise the Lord indeed! Glory be to Him!

God is so good! I have tears in my eyes from this beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it. We just started our first foreign adoption and, needless to say, I'm a little nervous as I feel like we are sailing through uncharted waters. But it is encouraging to know that others, like you, have gone before. I love seeing how God has blessed your family. Thank you for sharing your blessings with all of us.
