Challenged

I am challenged by many books I read.  Challenged in a good way, the way that brings me closer to God, love Jesus more and leaves me scratching my head in prayer, “What do you want me to do with this God?”

Three books I recommend:

the hole in our gospel

The Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns

Crazy Love

Crazy Love by Francis Chan

Family Driven Faith

Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham

Also, this isn’t related to the material in his book, but if you have never listened to the sermon, Table of Nations by Voddie Baucham, The American church has such a skewed perspective on this topic. Click here and listen. So good.

What books would you recommend that have challenged you?

10-13 003

J&A want you to know they are big stuff. :)

Have a happy weekend!

The Hole In Our Gospel is probably #1 on my most challenging list. One of those "What do you want me to do with this God?" books for sure, but also one that I want read at least once a year for the rest of my life so I don't forget. :) I've not read Crazy Love, but I have read Forgotten God by Francis Chan and I would recommend. I'll be adding Family Driven Faith to my list...thanks for the suggestions!

Radical by David Platt, a MUST read!! I read Hole in Our Gospel, Crazy Love, and then Radical. I was challened by the first, loved the second, and KNOCKED OFF MY SEAT by the third. Really. I just don't know how to describe it. Every Christian should be required to read it, maybe like the 11th commandment. :)

Ditto on Crazy Love and Radical. SOOOOOO good! Very convicting! I actually just gave Family Driven Faith to nathan for his bday yesterday! So I have not read, but will be reading it soon. We have been so blessed by Voddi lately--we have a few of his sermons, and they are great! We'll have to get Hole in Our Gospel--I haven't heard much about that one, but it sounds great!

Hi Amy! "Same Kind of Different As Me" by Denver Moore - that one challenged me on so many different levels. It also encouraged me greatly when I had a family member suffering from cancer. A very good read!

I'm excited about trying your suggestions. Everyone keeps talking about Francis Chan but i read (well, started) Crazy Love years ago, and just couldn't get into it. Anyways, I'm excited about the Voddie Bauchum read.

Hard to believe how big the girls are, huh?

2 books that I've appreciated lately are Desiring God (especially the chapter on suffering) and Voices in the Night (prison poems by Deitrich Bonhoeffer).
